Kirinyaga, Kenya: Armed robbers Monday raided a petrol station at Ngurubani market in Mwea and made off with Sh5.2 million.
The gangsters also shot a handcart pusher during the 8.45am raid.
According to the Mwea East District OCPD Apollo Onyonyi, the robbers blocked a pickup truck that was transporting weekend collections from the petrol station and ordered the two employees to surrender the cash.
Onyonyi said their getaway vehicle had four occupants who fired towards the surging crowd as they escaped, injuring the hand cart pusher identified as Duncan Muthii.

He was rushed to a private medical facility where he underwent emergency surgery.
Muthii said he had gone to the scene as usual since it where he works unaware he would be a victim of the morning robbery.
“I normally time business ladies who have heavy loads of rice which require transporting to the nearby bus park. I woke up as usual and started my daily business only to be shot at by the robbers,” he said from his hospital bed.
A nurse at the facility, Ms Nancy Wawira, said Muthii was brought in bleeding profusely from the bullet wound.
“After the emergency surgery and the blood transfusion, Muthii is now in a stable condition and completely out of danger,” Wawira said.
Onyonyi said police gave chase but lost track on the busy Mwea-Embu highway.
He said police had obtained some crucial leads in hunting down the robbers.
